№2: The bigger picture of purpose
“I thought I saw you speed past me, so I called out to say hello. And don’t tell me you’re out doing some exercise.” Smiling, I told her she guessed right. I was doing what I have always done most Saturday mornings since the start of 2020.
Whenever I go on these bike rides in my neighborhood, I see a lot of people like my colleague jogging or walking in hopes of shedding some weight and getting back in shape.

It’s nice to see people taking action to change what they don’t like. For the best results from our actions, the process of change from an individual’s viewpoint revolves around two fulcrums.
The motive: Intrinsic or extrinsic?
The best form of motivation comes from within.
A lot of gyms I have visited have portraits of hulking figures splashed all over the walls; perfect six-pack abs, bulging-veined biceps, and thighs are always displayed as the ultimate proof of manliness. If you came short of any of these goals, some people made you feel inferior.
