The One Time a Tweet Moved Me to Tears

We’re all emotional, after all.

Ever one to luxuriate in the heat of the hottest Twitter trends, I set out on my old ways one afternoon before I succumb to my obligatory nap.

Amid the Euro 2020 (2021?) chatter, European football transfer gossip, and Chris Paul’s heroics with the Phoenix Suns at the Staples Center, one strange hashtag said hello to me.

#5CedisCanSave.

Playing cat and entering the den of the curious, I thumbed on the hashtag, stealing myself for an explosion: an explosive video, maybe.

Instead, it was a campaign to raise funds for emergency surgery. Just not a type of condition that has ever graced the sandy shores or walked the sunny streets of Ghana.

And definitely, no one ever got a whiff of such a case along the dimly lit corridors of our hospitals. At best, those corridors gave off mild smells of antiseptic and loud beeps of machines.

It’s certainly one to go down in the annals of history.

The post stirred up my emotions and caused some tears to spill the banks of my eyes.

Down my cheeks, the spillage streamed. My pillow became the sea to receive the runoff.

A brief background to the story
