“The next time I meet you sleeping at the desk will be your last day at the head office. And the reasons for your transfer will be on file. Mind you, it will undo every good thing you’ve done since your time here.”

The Managing Director of an accounting firm I visited breathed down those threats on one of his employees in my presence. I felt guilty for reporting there was no answer when I knocked on the door.

Sadly, many companies take a dim view of napping on the job. Similar to this, several other misconceptions about productivity bombard us daily.

While we all want maximum output from ourselves and our employees, we might be going about it all wrong.

Here are some popular beliefs we have held on to for so long that keep hurting our productivity.

The more hours you put in, the more you’ll achieve

Some people have foolishly suggested that sleep is for the week. Maybe it is meant to be tongue in cheek, but some swear by it.

Some experts keep reminding us of how the average person spends a third of his time sleeping.
