Here in Ghana, the biggest symbol of witchcraft is the owl. At least that's generally accepted across the country. But in different parts of the country, it could easily be a different creature.

While it's real, some people go over the board with their witchcraft-related fears. I don't blame them, though, given what they may have seen or heard.
