Growing up, the biggest lie we were told was "go and bring a cloth so mummy carries you at her back."

(Usually happens when an elderly person is stepping out of the house and a child wants to tag along.)

As soon as the child steps inside, mummy disappears. The child would cry to no end. Most parents make it up to the lied to child in other ways, though.
